Patricia van den Nieuwenhuijzen’s paintings
are a tribute to nature and existence. Be it the body or a landscape, she
treats both with earnest observation. Her subject matter gravitates towards
that which is beautiful and familiar. She paints Australia’s lush beauty with
impassioned colour and expressive line. Capturing the essence of rolling hills,
blowing trees, and the nature’s curious patterns, she accentuates her imagery
with the use of autonomous form and line. Repetition and ordering devices play
an interesting role in her compositions. Shapes are often treated with a
flattening curvilinear stylization that gently repeats within her work. Her
subject matter is composed with an intriguing logic that is not unlike Henry
Rousseau’s imagery. Patricia van den Nieuwenhuijzen's
expertise in mathematics perhaps contributes to the methodological approach
reflected in her compositions. She currently heads the math department at
Australian National University College. Still her pictures are immersed in
experience as much as analytics. Since 2003 her art has risen in visibility
with three solo shows and numerous group shows in Australia.
A heart felt note from
the Artist:
I have been watching
this gallery since 2003 when I first found it on the web. I have watched how this gallery promotes
fresh new talent. Agora Gallery is one
of the most progressive galleries currently in New York City. I receive all their newsletters and quickly made
the decision that one day I would like to exhibit with them.
March 2005 I
entered the “Soho-Chelsea International Art Competition”. The intention was not to win (and I didn’t)
but hopefully as the years go by that I may be noticed.
April 2005 I received
an email from the director of Agora Gallery, so impressed with my work,
inviting me to accept their offer for a one year representation. I am still jumping out of my skin with joy, I never imagined or dreamt that I would be noticed so
fast. I Praise the Lord for guiding me
with my work, and I thank Agora for noticing my talent. I look forward to a
long and prosperous relationship with this very special and amazing art
gallery.
Thank you to
both Angela and Stefanie for noticing and supporting me.
